How to display a custom introduction for a news post

How to create a custom news story intro

Use these instructions to add a customized introductory paragraph for a news story. This custom intro will show up in the main feed (content subscription) of the news section to which you've added the story.

When you create a new "News item" (post) on a news page, the intranet automatically pulls the first few hundred characters of your post and displays that as the post intro on the main news page. This auto-generated summary will also not include any advanced formatting you may have in the page.

With these instructions you can replace the automatically generated post summary with a custom written introduction. This can include a photo placed just where you want it and is especially useful for careful editing of news posts that will feed into the homepage news section. To have a photo appear with your custom news story intro, you need to insert the photo in the "Summary text" box along with your custom intro text.

Edit page and click "All settings"

  • Step 1: Navigate to the specific news post.
  • Step 2: Click "Edit" to go into edit mode.
  • Step 3: Click "All settings" on the bottom right. The settings dialog will appear.
  • Step 4: Click "Summary" on the left of the settings dialog.
  • Step 5: In the "Summary text" box type in a custom news story intro. You can also insert a photo and set it to float to the right or left.
