How to use favorites

Favorite any intranet page with a click

Use favorites on your ThoughtFarmer intranet to access important pages quickly and keep up-to-date with changes. You can add any intranet page to your list of favorites with just one click.

  • Step 1: Navigate to the page you want to add and click the Favorite icon (star icon) to the right of the page title. The "Favorite" icon will change from grey to yellow when the page is favorited.
That's it!
To see who else has favorited a page: hover over the Favorite icon (star icon) to see a pop-up list of people who have favorited the page.

View your favorites list from your profile page, homepage, or any page

Once you add a page to your intranet favorites it shows up in your favorites list, accessible in any of three places. Depending on the settings on your intranet, you can find your favorites in these areas:
  1. Your profile page - You are always able to access your favorites from your profile page, and you can add, edit and delete favorites from here too.
  2. Homepage - If enabled, favorites appear on the right-hand side of the page, and you can add, edit and delete favorites from here too.
  3. Application Toolbar - If enabled, click on "Favorites" in the bar across the top of the page to access a dropdown menu of your favorites. This is the handiest place to find your favorites because the Application Toolbar is available from any page on your intranet.
From any favorites section, you can access a favorited page with just one click.

Favorites can trigger in-app and email notifications

In your profile settings you can choose whether favoriting a page means that you will automatically follow the page. When you follow a page, you receive in-app and email notifications when changes are made to the page. If you choose to automatically follow pages that you favorite, then you will receive notifications when changes are made to pages that you have favorited. To change whether favoriting a page results in you getting notifications from the page:
  • Step 1: Click on the Notifications menu in the Application Toolbar.
  • Step 2: In the menu that opens, click the gear in the bottom right. This will take you to editing the Notifications tab of your profile.
  • Step 3: Under "Automatically follow a page after you", find the checkbox "Favorite a page", and:
    • Select the checkbox to automatically follow when you favorite pages.
    • Unselect the checkbox to favorite pages without following them.
  • Step 4: Click "Save changes".

How to add a favorite from your profile page

While on your profile page you can add intranet pages, external websites, emails, or SharePoint documents to your intranet favorites. Once you add them they show up in your favorites list just like other favorites.
  • Step 1: Navigate to your profile page.
  • Step 2: Click "Add favorite" in upper right-hand area of the page. This will open a screen for adding a favorite.
  • Step 3: Type the name of the favorite in the "Enter a title" box.
  • Step 4: Click "Choose Link" and then select an intranet link or paste a link to an external website and click "Insert Link". (See complete instructions on how to insert links.)
  • Step 5: Click "Publish" at the top right of the page. Your profile will reload showing this new link in your list of favorites.

Edit profile to make favorites private

By default your favorites show up in a list on your profile page, visible to any colleague who visits your page. But you can set your favorites to private so only you see them.
  • Step 1: Click on your name or profile photo on the right of the Application Toolbar, and click "Edit profile" in the dropdown.
  • Step 2: In edit mode, click "Settings" on left hand side of page; under the heading for "Profile page preferences" uncheck the box for "Allow other users to see your favorites?"
  • Step 3: Continue editing or click "Save changes" at the top or bottom right of the page.
