Troubleshooting the search index

There are a few scenarios which may occur if there are problems with the ThoughtFarmer search index.

Symptom: There are no news items on the home page or on other news/blog/forum pages, and search does not return any results. This indicates that the entire index has become corrupt.
Solution:

  1. Go to the Administration PanelSearch section > Search Index page.
  2. Click Rebuild Search Index.

  3. Wait until full re-index completes (may be up to 30 minutes for large installations with a lot of content)
Please notify ThoughtFarmer Support of this issue at support@thoughtfarmer.com. We can examine the logs to determine the exact cause of such an index corruption.

Symptom: New content and\or users are not appearing in search results. This indicates that the entire index has become corrupt.
Solution:
  1. Go to the Administration PanelAdvanced options section > Message Queue page.
  2. Check for stale messages in the queue. If this is backed up then follow the instructions for restarting a stalled or failed service.

Symptom: The index folder has grown to a very large size. This indicates that temporary folders are not able to be cleaned up by the ThoughtFarmer Service.
Solution:
  1. Go to the Search Index Folder on the web server as indicated in the Administration PanelSearch section > Search Index page.
  2. Delete all _index.tmp.XXXXX folders.
  3. Ensure that Anti-virus software is set to exclude the parent index folder from real time scans.
